Player Ratings: Man United leave it late, fantastic Fellaini secures three points vs Young Boys

David de Gea – Made an outstanding save to keep United level. We’re seriously lucky to have him. 7/10

Antonio Valencia – Same old same old, really. Just doesn’t offer anywhere near enough in an offensive capacity. 4/10

Chris Smalling – I thought he was pretty good tonight, but then again, it was only Young Boys, we should expect a commanding display. 6/10

Phil Jones – Looked pretty cool, calm and composed for the most part. I just never feel comfortable with him in the team, though. 6/10

Luke Shaw – Back from suspension but didn’t get forward enough against an opponent who was happy to sit back. 5/10

Nemanja Matic – Average yet again. Booked for a cynical tackle. I’m just not sure what Andreas Pereira has to do to get a start. 4/10

Marouane Fellaini – Could have just saved Jose Mourinho’s job with a late winner. Tonight wasn’t a good performance from the Belgian, but when it mattered most, he stood up to be counted. 6/10

Fred – Looked bright and creative, yet Mourinho decided to hook him about 15 minutes into the second 45… 6/10

Jesse Lingard – Showed flashes of his brilliant movement, worked well with Rashford, but couldn’t unlock the Young Boys defence. 5/10

Anthony Martial – Quiet, very quiet. Perhaps he’s still recovering from the injury he picked up during the international break? 3/10

Marcus Rashford – He made some brilliant runs and got into some excellent positions. He just couldn’t finish them off… 5/10

Subs:

Paul Pogba – Didn’t create enough.

Romelu Lukaku – Was fairly average until a nice lay-off for Fellaini to hit the winner.

Juan Mata – Did alright.
