Player Ratings: Man United well -beaten by Barca, McTominay & Fred impress

David de Gea – No chance with the goal but made a couple of good stops with his feet to keep it at 1-0. 5/10

Ashley Young – Just awful. He struggled to keep up with play, always played the same ball down the channel and crossing-wise, the delivery was dreadful. 2/10

Chris Smalling – Was alright. Drew blood from Lionel Messi after a hefty tackle. Probably the highlight of the night. 6/10

Victor Lindelof – Looked shaky at times. I guess that’s natural when you see Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez running at you, though. 5/10

Luke Shaw – Unfortunate to concede an own goal. Perhaps he was too deep and should have been out wide. 5/10

Scott McTominay – Absolutely outstanding. Won tackles, worked hard, threw his weight around and got the ball moving again. His best United display. 8/10

Fred – Grew into the game. There was a second-half spell where Fred was absolutely everywhere, dominating the game with his passing, movement and tough-tackling. Maybe he does have a United future. 7/10

Paul Pogba – Made a couple of nice bursts forward but we still need to see more quality from our most talented player. 6/10

Diogo Dalot – Pretty good defensively but missed an outstanding chance as the first half was drawing to a close. He had to do better. 5/10

Marcus Rashford – Fairly quiet but it’s tough when you’re getting so little service. 4/10

Romelu Lukaku – Similar to Rashford, really. Just couldn’t get into the game. It must have been a frustrating evening for him. 4/10

Subs:

Anthony Martial – Looked lively.

Jesse Lingard – Didn’t get into the game.

Andreas Pereira – Not enough time to mark.
