Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-0 CSKA Moscow

David de Gea – Didn’t have an awful lot to do but made a crucial stop with his feet. 6/10

Ashley Young – Tried his best to bomb forward but his final ball was lacking. 5/10

Chris Smalling – Made an outstanding block at 0-0 to keep United on level terms. What a player he is turning into this season. 8/10 Man of the Match.

Daley Blind – Wasn’t tested whatsoever. Kept united moving in the right direction. 6/10

Marcos Rojo – Pushed forward wherever possible. Not troubled defensively. 6/10

Michael Carrick – His range of passing was excellent to see tonight. By far his best performance of the season. 7/10

Bastian Schweinsteiger – Controlled the middle of the park as per usual. 6/10

Juan Mata – Had a fairly quiet one. Made some nice passes but you expect more from the Spaniard. 5/10

Wayne Rooney – Took his goal well, but on the whole his performance still needs work despite his efforts. 6/10

Jesse Lingard – Unafraid to have a go. Made some nice runs and linked the play up wonderfully. Grabbed a superb cushioned assist for Rooney’s winner. 7/10

Anthony Martial – Perhaps his quietest game in a United shirt. Subbed just after the hour. 5/10

Subs:

Marouane Fellaini – Won some headers, offered a different type of threat.

Memphis Depay – Came on and played poorly.

Ander Herrera – Not enough time to mark.
