Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-4 Borussia Dortmund

Sam Johnstone – Not his finest afternoon. Looked nervous, and should have done more with Dortmund’s opener. 3/10

Antonio Valencia – Didn’t deal with the Dortmund threat very well. Looked good going forward, though. 5/10

Phil Jones – You want him to succeed so badly, but he looked rusty today. 4/10

Eric Bailly – So calm and composed. Brilliant on the ball and a top notch defender. What a talent. 7/10

Luke Shaw – Shaw completing 90 minutes in that heat was the biggest positive of the match. He looked great too. 8/10

Daley Blind – In the holding midfielder role. Played some nice passes forward. 5/10

Ander Herrera – Lively as per usual. Not really any real end product though. 5/10

Jesse Lingard – Should have scored in the first half. Ran around a lot, but didn’t have that cutting edge. 4/10

Juan Mata – His unselfishness for our sole goal was great to see. Looked good. 6/10

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Drifted in and out of the game. Nice to see him score though. 5/10

Memphis Depay – His confidence still looks completely shot. Has to improve. 3/10

Subs:

Sergio Romero – Couldn’t really do anything about the goals. 5/10

Marcos Rojo – Tragic. Made to look like a fool by Dembele. 3/10

Ashley Young – Didn’t really do an awful lot. 5/10

Marcus Rashford – Looked lively. 6/10

Paddy McNair – Pretty quiet. Not enough time to mark.

Adnan Januzaj – Shown glimpses of his talents. Not enough time to mark.

Andreas Pereira – Not really enough time to have an impact. Not enough time to mark.
