Joel Pereira – Made a couple of smart saves, couldn’t really do anything about the RSL goal. 6/10
Timothy Fosu-Mensah – Looked very bright. Bombed forward and linked up well with his teammates. Defended diligently. 7/10
Victor Lindelof – Nice to see him in action yet again. Very calm and composed. 7/10
Phil Jones – Had a bit of a mare for RSL’s goal. Outmuscled and outfought. 5/10
Daley Blind – Positionally, he just doesn’t have the legs and ability to bomb up and down the field which is key as a full-back. Did alright defensively though. 6/10
Michael Carrick – Slightly sloppy in possession on occasion. Could have protected the back four better. 5/10
Scott McTominay – Very confident on the ball and didn’t mind moving forward. Looked bright. 7/10
Paul Pogba – Gave the ball away far too often for a player of his quality. Got better as the half went on. 5/10
Jesse Lingard – Excellent. He looked very good in possession and linked up wonderfully well with Lukaku. His movement was brilliant to watch. 7/10
Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Wanted to be involved in everything. After a slow start, he played much better as the half went on and took his goal well. 6/10
Romelu Lukaku – Scored his first United goal which will no doubt settle the nerves. Held the ball up well, brought his teammates into play and took his goal superbly. 8/10
Subs:
Sergio Romero – His distribution wasn’t the best, but he made a smart stop late on to ensure the victory. 6/10
Antonio Valencia – Sent off midway through the second-half with a straight red given. He went through the back of an RSL player, but it was never a red card in a million years. 5/10
Eric Bailly – Just what you’d expect – solid and didn’t give their attackers a sniff. 6/10
Matteo Darmian – He’s a good defender but very limited when going forward. 6/10
Chris Smalling – Should have scored after a wonderful Pereira delivery. Watertight at the back though. 6/10
Ander Herrera – Had a quiet evening. Just didn’t really get into the game, but kept it simple and kept the ball in our possession. 5/10
Marouane Fellaini – Pretty poor. His passing was wayward and you expect him to use his physicality much better. 4/10
Anthony Martial – Ran at the opposing defence and tore through them like a knife through butter. Lacked that final pass or shot though. 6/10
Andreas Pereira – Shown flashes of his capabilities with some excellent deliveries from set-piecesa and open play. 6/10
Juan Mata – Not enough time to mark. He was subbed off within 10 minutes due to injury.
Marcus Rashford – Ran the channels well and kept the RSL defence on his toes. Didn’t get many opportunities when after Valencia was sent off. 6/10
Demetri Mitchell – Looked very solid once again. He has plenty of confindence in his own ability, and he’s giving Mourinho something to think about. 7/10
Axel Tuanzebe – Not enough time to mark.
