Player Ratings: Manchester United 2-1 Wolfsburg

David de Gea – Made a couple of stunning saves late on to protect all three points. 7/10

Antonio Valencia – Didn’t offer an awful lot in attack. Also was at fault for Wolfsburg’s goal as he played his man onside. 5/10

Chris Smalling – Continued his fine form. Gave the Wolfsburg defenders nothing and scored the winner. 8/10

Daley Blind – As you’d expect. Made some superb passes, positioned himself brilliantly and gave their strikers nothing. 7/10

Matteo Darmian – Solid once again, despite being switched over to left-back. 6/10

Morgan Schneiderlin – Kept it simple as you’d expect. Mopped up well. 6/10

Bastian Schweinsteiger – Not his best game in the red shirt. A few passes went astray and he lacked his usual calmness. 5/10

Memphis Depay – The final ball let him down at times, but once again full of confidence. 6/10

Wayne Rooney – An horrific miss in the first half summed up his evening. Looked poor. 4/10

Juan Mata – What a night. Took his penalty nicely, and his assist was absolutely sublime. 9/10 Man of the Match.

Anthony Martial – Led the line wonderfully. At 19 he has such a mature head on his shoulders. 7/10

Subs:

Ashley Young – Did well.

Phil Jones – Come in and done a good job.

Andreas Pereira – Looked lively.
