David de Gea – Wasn’t tested at all. Claimed a few crosses, but didn’t have to do an awful lot. 6/10
Paddy McNair – Switched to right-back and did a superb job. Looked a real threat offensively and linked up well with the midfield. 8/10 Man of the Match.
Chris Smalling – The back line didn’t have an awful lot to do. Expected more from him at set pieces though. 6/10
Jonny Evans – Nice to see him back involved, and although there wasn’t really an offensive threat he did ok. 6/10
Marcos Rojo – Lept superbly for his first-half goal, and once again put in an excellent performance full of energy. 7/10
Daley Blind – Made an early almost-fatal error. After that he kept the ball moving just as you’d expect. 5/10
Marouane Fellaini – His height and power posed Cambridge a real problem. 6/10
Juan Mata – The #10 kept cropping up in great offensive positions and he more than deserve his goal. 7/10
Angel di Maria – Looked lively as he reverted back to the middle of the park. Those whipped crosses of his are really dangerous. 7/10
Wayne Rooney – Full of energy, desire and drive, but didn’t really cause the League Two side enough problems. 5/10
Robin van Persie – Struggled to get into the game. Had a couple of decent chances which he should have taken. 4/10
Subs:
Ander Herrera – Grabbed an assist for James Wilson’s superb strike.
James Wilson – Took his goal brilliantly, and kept the Cambridge defence on their toes.
Ashley Young – Great to see him back involved.
