Player Ratings: Manchester United 3-0 Hull City

David de Gea – Largely untested, our Spaniard made one decent save to deny Jelavic with fifteen minutes to go. Controlled his back four well. 7/10

Antonio Valencia – Did well going forward, but didn’t look great when retreating. Not a natural right-back. 6/10

Chris Smalling – Scored a poachers goal to give United the lead, and looked solid defensively. Certainly making inroads to making up for that horror show in the derby. 7/10

Marcos Rojo – Great to have him back. His energy at the back was sorely missed and he made a few very tasty challenges. 7/10

Ashley Young – Against a better team he would have struggled defensively. Final ball poor. 5/10

Marouane Fellaini – Won the ball back, kept the game moving and controlled the midfield. Another solid performance. 8/10

Michael Carrick – Pulled the strings wonderfully, kept picking the right passes and looked back to his brilliant best. 8/10

Juan Mata – Mata put in a much-improved performance in this one, creating plenty of goalscoring opportunities throughout. He’ll be happy. 7/10

Angel di Maria – Looked bright before pulling his hamstring less than 15 minutes in. Will probably be missing for three weeks. Not enough time to mark.

Wayne Rooney – His good run of form continues. Took his goal excellently and led from the front. 8/10

Robin van Persie – Scored a wonderful goal and his all-round game was much-improved. Hopefully that’ll get the confidence flowing. 8/10

Subs:

Ander Herrera – Comfortably the best player on the park after replacing Angel di Maria. He picked the right passes, remained calm and controlled and bossed the middle of the park. Man of the Match. 9/10

Radamel Falcao – Nice to see Radamel back, but he should have scored after being played in by Juan Mata. 6/10

Darren Fletcher – Not enough time to mark.
