Player Ratings: Manchester United 3-0 Liverpool

The biggest game in the Premier League without a doubt. The local rivals with 38 league titles between them clashed at Old Trafford once again, with United running out 3-0 winners in an exciting game. Goals from Rooney, Mata and van Persie sealed the points but how did the team perform?

David de Gea: Outstanding between the sticks. Made save after save on a faultless afternoon. 10/10

Phil Jones: A decent performance on his return. Not perfect but contributed to a clean sheet. 7/10

Michael Carrick: Excellent. A calming influence at the heart of the defence. Controlled the game from the back. 9/10

Jonny Evans: A decent game at the back, got forward well at times too, but his blushes were spared after a horrendous backpass was intercepted by Sterling, who tried to round de Gea…to no avail. 7/10

Antonio Valencia: A good performance at right wing back. Created the first goal with a driving run and then splitting the defence and laying the ball on a plate for Rooney’s goal. 7/10

Marouanne Fellaini: At times, excellent, at others terrible. Some shaky passes but used his strength to dominate the Liverpool midfield. 7/10

Wayne Rooney: A good performance from the Captain, who was utilised in a deeper role in midfield. Scored the first, was involved in the third. Replaced late on. 8/10

Ashley Young: Like Fellaini, an up and down kind of game. Some negativity early on and some sloppy passing, however, grew into the game and played a great ball in for the second goal that Mata tucked in. 6/10

Juan Mata: Playing in behind the strikers, had a great game. Found space, found his team mates, and scored a goal, albeit from an offside position. 8/10

James Wilson: No goals yet this campaign but put in a good shift up top to stretch the Liverpool back line. Van Gaal played him because of his speed, and it certainly paid off. 7/10

Robin van Persie: Looks to be back to best in recent games and that continued today. Dropped deep when needed, as well as troubling the Liverpool defence all day long. Sealed the victory to make it 3-0. 8/10

Substitutes

Ander Herrera: Replaced Wilson and had an immediate effect. With Rooney being allowed to operate further upfield, United bagged the 3rd goal within moments of the change. Maintained his high energy style and played good passes. 7/10

Radamel Falcao: Still feeling his way back to match fitness. Came on when the game was won and the intensity had dropped. Needs to start against villa and find the net soon. 6/10

Paddy McNair: Replaced Jones late on and did well. Not enough time to mark though.
