Player Ratings: Manchester United 3-1 Liverpool FC

David de Gea – Received a warm welcome on his return to the line-up. Made a couple of stunning saves to deny Ings and Ibe, couldn’t stop Benteke’s wonder goal. 7/10

Matteo Darmian – Bombed up and down the right-flank all game. Didn’t give the Liverpool attackers an inch of space. 7/10

Chris Smalling – Led from the back. Had Benteke in his back pocket for the most part. 8/10

Daley Blind – Scored a wonderfully worked goal with a fantastic strike. Also made a vital goal line clearance at 1-0. 9/10 Man of the Match.

Luke Shaw – Defended well and always offered an outlet for both Depay and Young. 7/10

Michael Carrick – Kept the ball ticking over nicely. 6/10

Bastian Schweinsteiger – Bossed the middle of the park from minute one. Had complete control of James Milner and Emre Can. 8/10

Juan Mata – Fairly quiet. Made some nice passes but could’ve done more. 5/10

Ander Herrera – Won and took his penalty. Deserved his goal after a busy performance. 7/10

Memphis Depay – Had a quiet first half. Hooked at half-time. 4/10

Marouane Fellaini – Clearly not an out-and-out striker. Held the ball up well though. 6/10

Subs:

Ashley Young – Looked menacing from the get-go.

Morgan Schneiderlin – Brought some cover to the back four.

Anthony Martial – What a debut for the young man. He took his goal wonderfully.
