David de Gea – Didn’t have an awful lot to do in truth. He made a few simple stops, and distributed well. 7/10
Chris Smalling – Stood firm when called upon, and won a lot of aerial duels. 7/10
Phil Jones – Played as the middle one of the three, and looked as solid as ever. He didn’t shirk a tackle and put his head on everything in the air. 8/10
Jonny Evans – Dealt with Robbie Keane excellently. Surely has a big part to play in the upcoming season. 8/10
Antonio Valencia – Full of pace as always. The right-wingback role could really suit him. 6/10
Ander Herrera – What a debut from Herrera. He ran the show from the first minute and ended the game with three excellent assists. One to watch this season. Man of the Match. 9/10
Darren Fletcher – Wore the captains armband and led from the middle. Looked fit and healthy against a team in the middle of their season. 7/10
Luke Shaw – Great first appearance from Shaw. Solid going backwards and wasn’t afraid to bomb forward and get a cross in. 7/10
Juan Mata – Flourished in the #10. Made the most of the ball and grabbed himself an assist for Danny Welbeck’s goal. 8/10
Danny Welbeck – Scored a screamer after 12 minutes, and made the most of his chance to impress. Worked hard, held up play well and wore out the Galaxy defenders. 7/10
Wayne Rooney – Scored two goals, but it wasn’t his best performance. He looked sluggish and tired – perhaps a World Cup hangover? 7/10
Subs:
Anders Lindegaard – Similarly to De Gea, he didn’t have much to do. 7/10
Tyler Blackett – Kept quiet and didn’t see much of the ball. Looked composed. 6/10
Rafael – Came in and did a solid job on the right. 6/10
Michael Keane – Calm and composed, and seems to fit in the three at the back system nicely. I hope he gets a chance this season. 7/10
Reece James – What a dream debut. He scored two well-placed finished and seemed to enjoy the left-wingback role. 9/10
Nani – Didn’t have an awful lot of time on the ball. Hopefully we’ll see more next game. 6/10
Ashley Young – Scored two wonderful finishes and even grabbed an assist. Impressive. 8/10
Tom Cleverley – Kept it simple, and played the ball neat and tidily. 6/10
Shinji Kagawa – Came in behind the strikers and did ok. 6/10
