Player Ratings: Newcastle 0-4 United

Anders Lindegaard – Quiet first half but came to life in the second half. Made some truly world class saves which suggests he should be playing regular football elsewhere. 8/10

Antonio Valencia – Didn’t do too badly despite being played out of position. Wasn’t really tested though. 5/10

Phil Jones – Put his body on the line. Worked superbly with Smalling. 7/10

Chris Smalling – Won headers. Won tackles and made interceptions. Great to have him back. 7/10

Patrice Evra – Picked up an injury in the first half, but whilst on the pitch he wasn’t really tested. 5/10

Marouane Fellaini – He let his man drift by time and time again. Struggled to find a Red shirt and often got beaten in the air. Poor performance. 3/10

Darren Fletcher – Completed the most passes on the pitch. Kept it simple, and did the dirty work well. 8/10

Ashley Young – Went off early due to an injury to his hand. Didn’t do an awful lot when on the pitch though. 4/10

Juan Mata – What a player. He scored a super free-kick, a calm tap-in and he rounded his night off with a sublime back-heeled assist for Januzaj’s goal. Man of the Match. 9/10

Shinji Kagawa – Him and Mata are a joy to behold. His two assists were fully deserved and his all-round play was brilliant. 8/10

Javier Hernandez – His goal was a real poachers finish. Did well despite lack of minutes. 7/10

Subs:

Adnan Januzaj – Super finish for his goal. Linked up nicely with Juan Mata. All-in-all much more effective than Ashley Young. 7/10

Alex Buttner – Played very well yet again. Looks a shoe-in to start against Bayern on Wednesday. 7/10

Nani – Looked unfit which was expected. Didn’t really have time to make an impact.
