Another poor United performance finally saw us unable to recover from a losing position, and lets be honest it was bound to happen sometime. We were truly shocking, the most frustrating thing is that we didn’t seem to have any urgency about us at all. We lacked a real leader in the side and we missed Wayne Rooney badly.
Giggs in midfield just doesn’t work, how he managed to stay on the pitch for the full 90 minutes is beyond me, I respect what he has done for the club but for the best part of a year, he looks like he’s past it. We were awful down the wings too, where has the Antonio Valencia from last season gone? He looks scared to try and beat his man and his crosses have been wayward all season. Similar can be said about Ashley Young, he is so predictable, yes he can offer moments of brilliance, but is he really United quality?
To be fair to Norwich they defended extremely well but didn’t offer much going forward, thats why it’s so frustrating losing to them, one moment of brilliance from Anthony Pilkington meant the Canaries won all three points. We barely made any decent chances ourselves and we didn’t deserve to win the game.
Anders Lindegaard – The Dane didn’t have much to do, he couldn’t have do anything about the goal as it was right in the corner. His distribution was poor though. 5/10
Rafael – He never stopped bombing up and down the right wing, his final ball was poor at times though. 5/10
Chris Smalling – Chris is still returning to full fitness, but all in all he handled Grant Holt well and was calm and controlled in possession. 6/10
Rio Ferdinand – The 34-year old didn’t have much to do, he couldn’t do anything about the goal. 5/10
Patrice Evra – Very similar to Rafael, he kept offering himself as an outlet on the left, probably our best player on the day. 6/10
Antonio Valencia – Where has Antonio gone? He had another shocker last night, he looked scared to try and beat his man and drill the ball into the box. 3/10
Ryan Giggs – Ryan was non-existent in midfield, he and Carrick surrendered the middle of the park to a poor Norwich side, he could barely pick a pass. 3/10
Michael Carrick – Lacked desire and drive, he didn’t seem to have any urgency about him. 4/10
Ashley Young – Ashley has looked lost in a red shirt whenever he has played this season and that continued last night, he kept stumbling over the ball and had no control whatsoever. 3/10
Robin van Persie – Probably Robin’s quietest game. He lacked any real service with the absence of Rooney, he had one clear chance in the first half which he probably should’ve scored. 5/10
Javier Hernandez – The Mexican didn’t have one chance. The game wasn’t suited to him as he had very little space in behind. 5/10
Subs:
Paul Scholes – You’d expect Scholes to come on and change the game, however that didn’t happen. Norwich defended well and Scholes had no space to work in. 5/10
Danny Welbeck – Danny scored for England midweek but couldn’t score off the bench for United. He didn’t see much of the ball. 5/10
Anderson – Not enough time to make an impact.
