David de Gea – Once again, David was let down massively by the back four. Couldn’t do anything about the goal, and putting that aside he did alright. 7/10
Chris Smalling – Stopped Southampton going 2-0 up with an excellent block. Not a natural right-back, and it showed at times. 6/10
Rio Ferdinand – Perhaps his final appearance in United colours. He looked uncomfortable with Lambert’s presence at times. 4/10
Nemanja Vidic – In typical Vidic fashion, he finished his United career with a bloody nose. Arguably fouled for Southampton’s opener, and looked dazed for a while afterwards. Did well in the second half. 6/10
Patrice Evra – His contract runs out this summer. Struggled in the first half as Clyne pressed forward. Got on the front foot as the game wore on. 5/10
Adnan Januzaj – He and Shaw had a real good battle throughout. He made some intelligent runs, but Shaw tracked back every inch. 5/10
Darren Fletcher – Should’ve scored in the second half. Struggled in the first 45 as he was the only holding midfielder on the pitch. Improved dramatically when Carrick came on. 6/10
Shinji Kagawa – Struggled to create anything in the first half. Didn’t do himself any favours if he wants to remain a United player next year. Subbed at half-time, and rightly so. 3/10
Danny Welbeck – Worked hard just as you’d expect. Didn’t offer enough as an attacking force though. 5/10
Juan Mata – Scored a stunning free-kick. Has impressed since making the big money move to United, and will surely be a key player next season. 7/10
Robin van Persie – Quiet, but you expect that after a length lay-off. Subbed off after 70 minutes. 5/10
Subs:
Michael Carrick – Did well, and helped Fletcher win the midfield battle in the second 45. Didn’t probe the Saints defence enough though. 6/10
Javier Hernandez – Lively, but never looked like scoring. 5/10
Antonio Valencia – Not enough time to mark.
