Player Ratings: Swansea 1-4 United

The new era at Manchester United was started in the best possible way; A 4-1 victory away at Swansea City. Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck both scored two goals each in a display where taking your chances made the difference. United’s clinical finishing almost certainly won them three points.

It was nice to start the season with Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand fully fit too. If we can keep it that way all season long, we’ll have a real good chance.

David de Gea – Didn’t have an awful lot to do but when tested he did well. Couldn’t do anything about the goal. 6/10

Phil Jones – Did ok, but looked a little lost at times. Tackled well and got stuck in, but doesn’t suit playing at RB. 5/10

Rio Ferdinand – Picked up where he left off last season. Made some excellent interceptions and played out from the back. 6/10

Nemanja Vidic – He was a rock. Nobody was getting past Nemanja today. Excellent in the air and defended like a warrior 7/10

Patrice Evra – Excellent performance. Offered himself as an outlet down the left and did a good job defensively despite being isolated. 6/10

Antonio Valencia – Tony’s back! He made a superb assist for Welbeck’s first goal after squeezing the ball through and he looked confident again. 7/10

Michael Carrick – No Carrick no party. The heartbeat of the midfield was in excellent form again. He kept it simple and got the ball moving. 7/10

Tom Cleverley – Did ‘alright’. Sloppy at times and gave the ball away far too easily. Played some nice passes though. 5/10

Ryan Giggs – 39-year old Giggsy provided a wonderful assist for the opener but didn’t do much else. 6/10

Danny Welbeck – Super Dan already beat his Premier League goals tally courtesy of two good goals, his second was exquisite. He ran around for 90 minutes and got stuck in, an all-round excellent performance. 8/10

Robin van Persie – Oh Robin van Persie! What a player this man is. Both of his goals were world-class and his centre-forward play was a joy to watch. He made the difference, Man of the Match. 9/10

Subs:

Wayne Rooney – Came on and grabbed two excellent assists. Looked disinterested though. 6/10

Anderson – Not enough time to mark.
