Player Ratings: Tottenham 2-1 Manchester United

David de Gea – The Spaniard made a couple of good saves, but couldn’t really do anything about either Spurs goal. 6/10

Eric Bailly – Did alright as a makeshift right-back. Shown a nice turn of pace and won his fair share of tackles. 6/10

Chris Smalling – His positioning is just awful. I’m genuinely not sure what happened to the great centre-back he was under Louis van Gaal. 4/10

Phil Jones – His lack of strength is painful to watch. Harry Kane bullied him off the ball far too often. He just didn’t look very good. 4/10

Daley Blind – Seems to be getting worse. Some of his passes have just been dreadful. Alright, he’s not cut out to be a left-back but you expect better. 5/10

Axel Tuanzebe – Once again, proved his talents and gives us something to look forward to. He’s one to watch for the future, no doubt. 6/10

Michael Carrick – Pretty average. When the going got tough his teammates needed him to bring that experience to the table, but he did play some nice passes forward. 5/10

Wayne Rooney – Once again, dire. Although he did give United a glimmer of hope with a smart finish late on. 5/10

Juan Mata – Deployed as a winger and did a job, but the role he had meant he couldn’t play his natural, free-flowing game. 5/10

Jesse Lingard – Just couldn’t get going. Rightly subbed off after a poor hour or so. 3/10

Anthony Martial – Shown how hard he is to defend against sometimes, but his finished let him down on a couple of occasions. 6/10

Subs:

Ander Herrera – His usual lively self.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Didn’t really get into the game.

Marcus Rashford – Shown a nice turn of pace.
