David de Gea – Had nothing to do until the Sunderland goal. After that his kicking got a little nervy. 5/10
Phil Jones – Did alright defensively, and didn’t do too bad going forward today. Our best player. 6/10
Rio Ferdinand – Looked shaky, and was partly at fault for Sunderland’s goal. Looked past it. 3/10
Nemanja Vidic – Borini had Vidic beaten all day long. His lack of pace was highlighted on more than one occasion. 3/10
Patrice Evra – Once again, pace was his main problem. Adam Johnson found it far too easy to speed past our French left-back. 4/10
Darren Fletcher – Worked hard, but didn’t provide enough quality. His lack of imagination, alongside the out-of-form Carrick led to United losing the midfield battle. 3/10
Michael Carrick – His woeful season continues. He couldn’t find one penetrating pass, and I honestly cannot remember the last time he really controlled a game. 3/10
Nani – An all-round poor performance. His final ball wasn’t anywhere near good enough, but perhaps still isn’t match fit due to a lengthy lay-off. 3/10
Juan Mata – Did alright. Kept probing and testing the Sunderland defence but the lack of movement didn’t help. 5/10
Ashley Young – For me he was our worst performer, highlighted by some shocking crossing statistics. 2/10
Javier Hernandez – Never stopped running, but as expected he lost the aerial battle quite comfortably. He’s always better when utilised as part of a two striker formation. 5/10
Subs:
Danny Welbeck – Did far better in terms of attacking than Young and Nani.
Robin van Persie – Nice to have him back, but it’ll take him a little while to get back up to speed. Didn’t really have an impact.
Adnan Januzaj – His all-round play was super, but his final ball lacked any real quality.

i keep saying it and it is the truth…. kagawa is far more important to utd than anyone realises. he controls the midfield in a way that goes completely unoticed, and creates spaces and opportunities that help to win a game!
young needs to go! so much potential but he keeps his head down faaaaaarrrrr too often! and zaha janujaz NEED opportunities next season. them two are our future wingers
we have a BIG squad of serious talent, we can rotate heavily and change things about to the point of being able to win all tournaments and be incredibly unpredictable! we dont have one main squad, we can have 2-3 main squads… and first and foremost… carrick needs to be kicked out!!!
just watched sky sports highlights, and first have decent, but absolutley no cutting edge or decisiveness. no movement into space, nobody occupying space outside box, nobodoy playing the quick smart pass along the GROUND!!!! not in the air which serioously slows things down! there was a complete lack of creativity and footballing inteligence.
people dont realise that the parked bus means one thing… you have space and time!!! the parked bus is in fact incredibly easy to break down… but people are too silly to realise how to do this!!
i wish i was part of the coaching staff… cus i know exactly how to drag the best out of these lads regarding the movement of themselves and the ball! they need to stop this silly long ball play and keep in short and direct. guardiolas style is weak in that he requires you to make a mistake and then they build on that…. guardiola lacks decisivness and is why they got hammered by madrid
utd HAVE to stop playing to holding midfielders… what does it take to learn carrick and fletcher are useless together. they arent good enough at creating and dictating the midfield. i have said it all season!
and yh i know theres loads of spelling errors… but i dont care lol.
A bit unfair on Nani. I felt he was our only player attacking with some imagination.
It seems to be the trend to scapegoat and criticise Nani no matter how he plays. Very harshly criticised compared to others. Shame really because it stops him from expressing himself like he can.
Also worth mentioning that Giggs’s choice to bring him off, at the time he did, was almost Moyes like. Clueless. Januzaj did not offer us anything that Nani wasn’t. Also why did he start on the left and Young on the right? Why leave Valencia out when he played well last week? Why chop and change again for the 50 millionth time this season? Why leave Fletch and Carrick on when they where having the worst game of their careers? Why was Cleverly not starting. He would’ve been key in the game for tidying up when things got messy in midfield. And Kagawa? Also key to unlock Sunderland’s stubborn defence.
