Player Ratings: United 2-1 Stoke

Manchester United secured their 4th consecutive win this evening with a 2-1 victory over Stoke. Goals from Marouanne Fellaini and Juan Mata sealed the points as United start to cement their place in the top 4. Here’s how the players faired.

David de Gea: Could do little about the goal but a superb save at the death protected the 3 points. 8/10

Antonio Valencia: Defended well as well as looking like his old self going forward. 7/10

Chris Smalling: Another good solid game at the back against the aerially superior Stoke team. 8/10

Marcos Rojo: Also had another good game at centre back following his injury lay off. 8/10

Ashley Young: Average game for the make shift left back. Defended well and got forward often, but slowed the game down at times by putting his foot on the ball and not being positive enough. However, he saved United at the death by clearing off the lineto protect the points. 6/10

Michael Carrick: Ruthlessly efficient just in front of the defence. Provided protection to the defence as well as being good in possession. 8/10

Marouanne Fellaini: Maintained his good run of form. Scored the opener with a fine back post header, the first at Old Trafford for United. 8/10

Ander Herrera: Another good game, however a bit more sloppy in possession than he was against Hull. Set up the opener with a fine cross from the left. Blazed over early on in front of an open goal. 7/10

Juan Mata: Good performance again in behind the strikers topped off with a fortunate goal from a free kick that was missed by everybody and sailed in. 7/10

Robin van Persie: Worked hard and played well up front. Pressed the back line and dropped deep to help the team. Didn’t get many chances in front of goal. 6/10

James Wilson: Starting in place of the injured Wayne Rooney and justified his selection. The teenager stretched the game with good pace and energy. Had a chance to score but put it wide following a great run. 7/10

Substitutes
