United continued their good run of form by overcoming West Ham 1-0 in the FA Cup Replay, Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the game after some fine teamwork by Anderson, who made his comeback from injury, and Javier Hernandez, who added his 7th assist of the season which gave Rooney a tap-in at the far post.
The game was a dull affair for the most part, although in the end we were worthy winners, it perhaps should’ve been more than just 1-0, especially after Rooney skied his second half penalty way over the bar. Although replays are usually wanted to be avoided, the game against West Ham provided us with the chance to utilise some players who needed game time upon return from injury, including Rooney, Nani and Anderson.
Anders Lindegaard – Dealt with the aerial threats well, although his distribution was poor. 6/10
Rafael – Bombed forward and offered himself as an outlet all game, he got stuck in and tackled well, contender for MotM. 8/10
Chris Smalling – Looked solid alongside fellow England international Phil Jones, dealt with West Ham’s power well. 7/10
Phil Jones – Proved some doubters wrong today, many think his height and positioning mean he’ll fail to be a centre back in the future, played extremely well in this one. 7/10
Alex Buttner – Very inconsistent performer, looks great bombing forward but often is let down by his decision making. 6/10
Antonio Valencia – His game relies heavily on beating his man and crossing the ball in, he didn’t do either well again last night. His poor form continues. 5/10
Anderson – Picked up from where he left off before his injury, within 10 minutes he’d played a killer ball through which led to a goal. 7/10
Ryan Giggs – Giggsy rolled back the years, he was beating people almost at will, he ran past two or three defenders before winning the penalty. Man of the Match. 9/10
Nani – Great to have him back, although he was fairly quiet. 6/10
Wayne Rooney – Mixed performance for Wayne, he scored a goal but also missed a penalty. He needs to get fit. 6/10
Javier Hernandez – Looked lively throughout, assisted Rooney’s goal and was always on the move. 7/10
Subs:
Michael Carrick – When Carrick came on he added that calmness in the middle of the park, looked solid and helped us hold onto the 1-0 win. 7/10
Paul Scholes – Got himself booked within minutes, played some nice passes though. Although he is now 2 bookings away from a two game ban. 7/10
