Player Ratings: Watford 2-0 Man United (Premier League, 2019)

David de Gea – Made a huge blunder to set Watford on their way. I’d like to see more command of his penalty area. 2/10

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Was playing to his usual solid standards until he gave away the penalty with the score at 1-0. It would prove fatal. 4/10

Harry Maguire – Defended relatively resolutely. Though I’d still like to see more leadership ad commitment to drive his team forward. 5/10

Victor Lindelof – Was alright for the most part. Perhaps he could do better against Deeney in the one-on-one battle. 4/10

Luke Shaw – Didn’t get forward enough while I still worry about his positioning. Also picked up a booking. 3/10

Scott McTominay – Not great for the second week in a row. Perhaps he’s now ridden the early-season high and needs another boost to get back into the swing. 3/10

Fred – The old Fred is now back… His passing was poor and he couldn’t create an awful lot. Had to be subbed. 3/10

Daniel James – Probably his quietest performance in a United shirt. Subbed as the second-half wore on. 3/10

Jesse Lingard – Had a great chance to give United the lead when through one-on-one. Looped his shot over the bar and didn’t really do anything of note thereafter. 3/10

Marcus Rashford – Unusually quiet. Didn’t do anywhere near enough in the final third to threaten an average Watford side. 3/10

Anthony Martial – Looked pretty isolated, though you’d like to see him try to get into the game more. 4/10

Subs:

Mason Greenwood – Missed a big chance.

Paul Pogba – Looked supremely bright. His passing was accurate and tried to get United moving in the right direction.

Juan Mata – quiet.
