Mauricio Pochettino has given the clearest indication that he wants the Man United job.
Earlier today, we covered a story claiming that Mauricio Pochettino is ready to take the Manchester United job. Apparently, the Argentine is unhappy in the French capital due to a variety of reasons.
Now, the Manchester Evening News have given us a further update on Pochettino’s future – and it’s a big one.
Samuel Luckhurst claims that the PSG manager is ‘prepared to quit’ his current club and join United now, rather than waiting until next summer.
Apparently, Pochettino has long-harboured ambitions to manage the Old Trafford club. That feeling is also mutual, with the 49-year-old United’s first-choice to replace Jose Mourinho back in 2018 – but some excellent performances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scuppered those plans.
Again, it’s claimed that Poch is unsettled in Paris, and it was not the job he envisaged when he left Spurs a couple of years ago. The former Southampton manager had so much desire to remain in England, that he was even prepared to replace Unai Emery at Spurs’ fierce rivals, Arsenal.
In terms of the overall fit, Pochettino looks like the ideal match for the Old Trafford club. He makes astute signings, loves developing the next generation and has managed top-class players.
United need a manager who absolutely loves the thought of being in charge at the club, rather than them having to persuade someone to join. Pochettino gives off an impression that he’d give his all to enjoy success here in Manchester. That has to be his number one selling point.
If Pochettino is ready to take over right now and he’s still the club’s first choice. I see no reason why United cannot make this deal happen pretty quickly.
What’s interesting is that Pochettino will be in town tomorrow, when PSG head to the Etihad to take on Manchester City in the Champions League.
