It’s fair to say that Paul Pogba isn’t fully happy at Manchester United. The 26-year-old midfielder previously admitted he’d like a new challenge, although his attitude on pre-season tour has been exemplary.
Well today, we’ve been given an update on Pogba’s situation, while we’re seemingly well on the way to finding a replacement. The story comes from Sky Sports Germany, who states that there is now ‘momentum’ in the transfer of the mercurial Frenchman to Real Madrid…
Furthermore, United are ‘concretely negotiating’ a deal for the 24-year-old Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as Pogba’s replacement. Apparently, he will cost €75m (£67m).
I’m concerned because United are already looking light in midfield. Don’t forget that Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera have left without being replaced, and if Pogba leaves, then the Reds will have to go out and make a splash.
Going and getting Milinkovic-Savic would be a real statement of intent, but it would also be one step forward and two steps back. The Serbia international would need time to settle into his new surroundings and there’s no telling how long it would take (if he could adjust at all).
Obviously, losing Pogba would be a blow. He’s been excellent during pre-season, but if Real Madrid stump up a colossal amount of money, then perhaps it would be too hard to turn down given the current circumstances.
