There’s a chance that Dean Henderson leaves Man United this month.
Manchester United Football Club, despite all their faults, have been almost flawless when it comes to choosing their goalkeepers.
David de Gea was once regarded as the best in the world. He’s slowly but surely getting back to that form. You rarely see a back-up as good as Sergio Romero was, either.
Then we have Dean Henderson. The Englishman looks like someone with the potential to be a world-class number one at the highest level. He was showing that with regularity last term.
However, he’s barely played in 2021/22. The campaign started with Henderson suffering from Covid-19 and injury. That meant De Gea didn’t even have to work for the starting berth. The Spaniard hasn’t looked back.
Now Henderson could well leave Old Trafford in some capacity this month. There is a ‘possibility’ that the 24-year-old United starlet does depart in January, with discussions ongoing. That’s according to Jonathan Shrager.

As Shrager states, a loan move is more likely at this moment in time, because Henderson is committed to the Red Devils in the long term. A contract until 2024 will definitely do that to you.
Henderson simply needs to be playing football games. A few appearances every six months just will not allow him to develop. We’ve seen it first-hand how important those loan spells to Sheffield United were.
The Englishman should now be looking to play at a higher level than Sheffield United, though. The question is, will that option be available to him? Most top-tier sides already have their goalkeeper in place…
