Predicted Man United XI vs Man City (Carabao Cup, 2020)

Manchester United Football Club have a mammoth task on their hands. Overturning a two-goal deficit, away from home no-less, against Manchester City, is a big ask.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still working with one hand tied behind his back. Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford aren’t returning anytime soon – hence why the fans are craving for new signings. For now, though, the Baby Faced Assassin has to work with what he has.

Anyway, with everything considered, we’ve tried our best to decipher Solskjaer’s mind and work out what line-up United will go with…

Predicted Man United XI vs Man City in full:

In goal, David de Gea will get the nod. No doubt the Spaniard will be super-busy for throughout, and we’re going to need a heroic performance from our number one.

I’ve gone for a back five. It’s something Solskjaer has been experimenting with recently and I think we could see it utilised again here. Harry Maguire will be at the heart with Victor Lindelof to his left and Eric Bailly on the right. I think the full-backs pretty much pick themselves right now. Brandon Williams and Aaron Wan-Bissaka both start after being rested at the weekend.

Nemanja Matic could well miss this one through injury, so I reckon we’ll see our Brazilian partnership of Fred and Andreas Pereira handed major responsibility here. Fresh off a Man of the Match display, Jesse Lingard will be involved.

The front two of Daniel James and Anthony Martial terrorised this City defence last time out. They’ll be hoping lightning strikes twice, though this time they won’t have Rashford to help them out…
