Predicted Man United XI vs Man City (Carabao Cup, home 2020)

Manchester United Football Club take on their noisy neighbours Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday night.

The first of the two legs will be played at Old Trafford, as the Red Devils look to take a lead over to The Etihad before the reverse fixture at the month’s end. No doubt Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will be feeling pretty good – particularly after winning 2-1 at Eastlands just last month.

Anyway, with that in mind, we’ve tried to decipher Solskjaer’s thinking, so take a look at our predicted Man United XI vs Man City here:

Changes were made for the FA Cup clash at the weekend, meaning Solskjaer can go as close to full strength as possible in this one. First and foremost, David de Gea returns in between the sticks.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka comes in at right-back, though the rest of the defensive line will be as is. Brandon Williams deserves this opportunity to start in a derby, while Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire will both play – providing the latter is passed fit.

Nemanja Matic is the only option to sit at the base of the midfield. We’re going to need a huge game from him, though his lack of mobility concerns me. Fred will start, as will Jesse Lingard, who’s speed and movement could be key.

Here’s where the pace really comes into play. Daniel James gets the nod, he’s arguably the quickest player in the country, as is Marcus Rashford who starts on the left. Anthony Martial’s no slouch either. He leads the line.
