Predicted Man Utd XI vs Southampton (Premier League away, 2020/21)

The Red Devils have managed to string together three wins on the spin. Now, it’s time to make it four. Here’s our predicted Man Utd XI for the Premier League away game vs Southampton.

I’ll begin by saying this. Beating Southampton will not be easy. They’re in superb form, playing some lovely football and they always give us a tough time at St Mary’s Stadium. We should expect no different on Sunday.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has instilled real confidence and belief in our opponents. It’s up to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to plan and plot his tactics meticulously in order to give his team the best possible chance at scooping a much-needed three points.

In terms of team news, Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw are the only confirmed absentees, leaving the Baby Faced Assassin with plenty of options and decisions in regards to who he plays.

Excellent performances from the likes of Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek will definitely give the gaffer something to think about. No doubt he’s also pondering what to do about Paul Pogba, who doesn’t seem to be in the right mental state at the moment.

Anyway, let’s get right into the team I think we’ll go with. Solskjaer will probably set up in the 4-3-3 formation, in order to pack the midfield and drive Southampton back. Winning the territory battle in this one could well be key.

David de Gea will obviously start, though I’ll expect he’ll have a busy afternoon – even despite Danny Ings’ absence.

Alex Telles will hopefully be fit enough to make his third start in a week, though don’t be surprised to see Brandon Williams given the nod. Aaron Wan-Bissaka should overcome an ankle injury to start. Harry Maguire will be included, as will Victor Lindelof. Let’s hope the latter is over his back issue.

Scott McTominay was completely rested in midweek, presumably so he’s feeling fit and ready to go on Sunday. Donny van de Beek will make his first Premier League start, while Bruno Fernandes will be involved.

The front three is new-look, but exciting all the same. Edinson Cavani has earned a chance at a first start, while Mason Greenwood will play over on the right. I’ve gone for Anthony Martial over Marcus Rashford, purely because the Frenchman needs a goal for his confidence.
