Predicted Man Utd XI under Ralf Rangnick

Ralf Rangnick’s move to Man Utd is all but confirmed, but what will the XI look like under the German?

Manchester United have had a whirlwind week. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is gone, Michael Carrick has managed his first game.

The Red Devils won that matchup against Villareal, though we all know he’s not the long-term answer.

In the end, United have settled upon bringing an interim in until the season’s end. That man? Ralf Rangnick. His six-month deal is all-but-confirmed.

The father of the ‘Gegenpress’, the man who taught Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel almost everything they know. I absolutely cannot wait to see how this goes.

No doubt Rangnick will want to put his own spin on things. No doubt it’ll take him time to work his magic and begin to influence this squad. Ahead of that, though, we’ve drawn up a best possible XI under Rangnick – assuming everyone is fit!

I’ll state that before we begin, nothing is set in stone, this is just a little bit of fun based on our opinion. We’ve tried to pick players who we think will drastically improve under Rangnick – and it’s absolutely okay to disagree with us!

Alright so picking the goalkeeper was pretty easy. David de Gea is back to his brilliant best, with the Spaniard looking like our number one option.

The defence looks a little different. I reckon Alex Telles gets the nod over Luke Shaw, particularly after reading what Rangnick said about the Englishman last year. Aaron Wan-Bissaka plays at right-back, purely because I don’t think Diogo Dalot is up to scratch. Raphael Varane always starts when fit, though I do believe Victor Lindelof’s passing range and forward-thinking ability will mean he’ll look great under Rangnick.

Another we believe will do well under Rangnick is Fred. The high-intensity game that the Brazilian plays will suit what the German wants to do down to the ground. Bruno Fernandes has been our best presser of late, with Donny van de Beek’s intelligence giving him a way into the side.

Look, we know he’s not going to press on every possession, but Cristiano Ronaldo will always start games whether you like it or not. Edinson Cavani is another who looks like a guaranteed starter over the next six months. Jadon Sancho’s skill and talent will flourish in this system.

I also think the likes of Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood have a bright future under Rangnick. I’m not convinced about Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and the aforementioned Shaw under the 63-year-old, though!
