Predicted Man Utd XI vs Derby County (Pre-season, 2021/22)

Man United kick off their pre-season this weekend, with a game against Championship side Derby County.

It doesn’t feel too long since Manchester United were taking part in their Europa League final. Now, we’re here and ready for it all to kick off again.

In just over 48 hours time, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils begin their pre-season tour with a game against Wayne Rooney’s Derby County. These matches are purely for fitness purposes, though it’s always nice if your side can get a few wins under the belt as it definitely helps with confidence.

As per usual, the squad is returning to training in dribs and drabs depending on how hectic their summer has been. In a year where both the European Championships and Copa America were played, it’s expected that United will be a little thin on the ground for this one.

Nonetheless, this gives us an opportunity to see a full debut given to one player, while several youngsters look set to start here. Picking our first predicted line-up of the summer was extremely tough, I can’t lie! Anyway, here goes…

So the 4-3-3 formation is an absolute guess, but that’s the setup United have opted for more often than not, so that’s why we’ve gone with that.

Tom Heaton will be given a full debut here, as he looks to feel his way into life back at Old Trafford.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Telles will start in the full-back slots, with our defence looking pretty strong here. Phil Jones is desperate for minutes under his belt, with Axel Tuanzebe completing the back four.

Nemanja Matic will sit at the midfield’s base as he gears up for his fifth season as a Red Devil. In front of him is where the fun starts. James Garner will be given a chance to show what he can do, while Shola Shoretire will likely start.

Mason Greenwood wasn’t selected for England so he’ll be feeling super fit and fresh for this one. Anthony Elanga will also be involved from the off, with Juan Mata, fresh off a new contract, starting over on the right.

Predicting the subs bench is equally as difficult, so we’ll leave that one to your imagination!
