Well, here we go. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer vs Pep Guardiola, with much more on the line than just three points. Let’s get right into our predicted Man Utd XI vs Man City.
With a victory, Manchester United will move back within two points of the Premier League summit. Which is why I think it’s strange that so many folk are calling for the Baby Faced Assassin to lose his job.
The good news for those of you who are still behind the Norwegian? He tends to step up and deliver massive results when his back is against the wall. This weekend’s Manchester derby is no different.
Getting one over on Guardiola is never easy, though. He’ll have to be tactically perfect, while putting massive faith in his players to execute the game-plan.
First and foremost, it’s about picking the right line-up. With players carrying niggling injuries and some guys set to miss out completely, it only makes Solskjaer’s job all-the-harder. Anyway, let’s get right into this one…
Predicted Man Utd XI vs Man City in full:
Dean Henderson simply deserves the opportunity to start here. It pains me to say it but David de Gea hasn’t been good enough recently, while the Englishman is yet to let us down.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka underperformed in midweek but he’s by far and away the best option here. I’m tipping him to have a massive bounceback performance. Alex Telles will play in the left-back slot. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof complete the now-customary back four.
Scott McTominay’s mobility will be massive here, as we look to halt Kevin de Bruyne in his tracks. Fred will be feeling well-rested after being suspended in midweek, while Bruno Fernandes obviously starts.
Anthony Martial was nursing a thigh injury last week though I get the impression he’ll be well enough to lead the line for the Reds in this one. Mason Greenwood will play off the right-flank, with Marcus Rashford over on the left.
If needed, the likes of Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek can be called upon off the substitutes bench. Here’s to hoping we’re cruising and they get to keep themselves warm on the sidelines instead!
