After dropping off the pace in the Premier League, perhaps winning a cup is Manchester United’s best chance at silverware this term. A tricky draw in the FA Cup, away at Leicester, leaves me wondering whether we should go all out in the Europa League.
The draw could have been kinder than Real Sociedad, mind. The Basque side play some lovely football and it will not be easy to beat this team over two legs.
Anyway, you’d hope that United have the quality in terms of both personnel and coaches to come out of this one on top – providing we play our best football for 180 minutes of the two-legged tie. With that in mind, let’s get right into the all-important team news.

Dean Henderson will start this one in between the sticks, replacing David de Gea for European football.
Alex Telles has looked pretty decent when called upon, so why not give him another start here? Aaron Wan-Bissaka gets the nod at right-back as per usual. Harry Maguire will be involved from the off, as will Eric Bailly, who needs the minutes under his belt.
Nemanja Matic comes into the side as the defensive-midfielder. He’ll have to be on his A-game against a top-quality Sociedad midfield. Fred will be involved for his mobility, with Donny van de Beek coming into the team in place of Bruno Fernandes.
Edinson Cavani will start as the lead striker. To his left will be Marcus Rashford, while Mason Greenwood will play from off the right-hand side.
Fernandes, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial are the game-changers off the substitutes bench. But let’s hope they’re not needed.
