The Europa League final is here. Ahead of the big game, let’s take a look at our predicted Man Utd XI vs Villareal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s big day has arrived. After semi-final heartbreak on a handful of occasions, Manchester United have reached a major final for the first time with the Baby Faced Assassin at the helm.
Villareal represent dangerous opponents. Make no mistake about it, Unai Emery’s side will be very well prepared for this one. The United players, to a man, will have to be at their absolute best.
After much deliberation, we reckon Solskjaer will opt for a 4-3-3 formation so he can fit all of his key stars in. Sadly, there was always one player who was going to miss out. We think it’ll be Fred. Anyway, let’s get right into it…

David de Gea has been installed as the cup goalkeeper over the last few games, so that trend will continue here. What does that mean for Dean Henderson in the long term? I have no idea.
Three of the back four is easy to select. Luke Shaw will start and he’ll be feeling well-rested, as will Aaron Wan-Bissaka who’ll be in for a tricky evening. Victor Lindelof is the first centre-back on the team sheet which is pretty concerning in itself. His partner? Eric Bailly, purely because he has more experience than young Axel Tuanzebe.
Solskjaer trusts Scott McTominay so I reckon the young midfielder is going to start in that deeper midfield role. His energy and physicality could well be key. Bruno Fernandes obviously plays from the off, with Paul Pogba making up the midfield trio.
Edinson Cavani has to lead the line. He is by far and away our best front man and we’re going to need him to be on top form here. Mason Greenwood is in brilliant form so he’ll start, with Marcus Rashford rounding out the front three.
Fred, Dean Henderson and the aforementioned Tuanzebe will no doubt be disappointed. However, they’ll be available off the bench if needed, as will the likes of Donny van de Beek, Juan Mata and Daniel James.
