Predicted MUFC XI vs Arsenal (Premier League home, 2021/22)

MUFC play a huge game vs Arsenal later today, with our thoughts on the predicted XI now in…

Credit where it’s due, Michael Carrick has certainly got a tune out of this squad over the last couple of games. Whether it’s players feeling relieved now that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is no longer here, or the lads pushing a little harder because a new manager is on the way remains to be seen. I’d suspect it’s a little of both.

Anyway, Carras will remain in charge for a crucial home game against Arsenal, during which another positive result is a must – as we can’t be falling too far away from the pack at this stage.

Let’s get right into the all-important team news, with a tactical switch potentially on the cards for the 20-time Premier League champions.

Alright, so in trying to incorporate all our top performing players into the team, we’ve gone for a diamond here.

David de Gea will obviously remain in between the sticks, with the Spaniard in flawless form right now.

This tactic requires width from the wide areas, so the onus will be on Alex Telles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to do exactly that. Harry Maguire will return from suspension, partnering Eric Bailly at the heart of our defence.

Scott McTominay was excellent against Chelsea at the weekend, with the Scotland international turning into our big-game player. We should place trust in him again here. Donny van de Beek’s willingness to press coupled with his on-ball quality means he should start, with Fred in there for his tenacity. Bruno Fernandes obviously starts.

I’ve gone for a front two here, with Jadon Sancho’s form rendering him undroppable. His movement, work ethic and skill means he’s the perfect partner for Cristiano Ronaldo.

I genuinely believe this tactic could work wonders if employed correctly. It plays to our strengths, while we’ll also have several game-changers ready to come off the bench if needed.
