Our predicted MUFC XI vs Atletico Madrid for the Champions League game is now in…
Manchester United begin their Champions League knockout campaign this evening, away in beautiful Madrid.
Ralf Rangnick will go head-to-head with Diego Simeone, in a game between two sides that should be performing better than they currently are…
As is always the case in matches against Atleti, it’s about keeping it tight at the back and looking to counter-attack. No doubt chances will come at a premium, so it’s up to Cristiano Ronaldo and the other attackers to take the chances that come their way.
With that in mind, let’s get right into our predicted team for this huge clash.
Check out our predicted MUFC XI vs Atletico Madrid in full here:
As you’d expect, David de Gea starts in between the sticks, with the Spaniard playing a game against his boyhood club for the first time in his United career.
Diogo Dalot will come back into the side at right-back and no doubt he’s feeling well-rested. Over in the left-back position, Luke Shaw will get the nod. Raphael Varane is another who sat out at the weekend, with captain Harry Maguire likely to retain his place in the XI.
I’ve gone for Fred over Scott McTominay, purely because the Scotland international was pretty beat up after Leeds away last time out. Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes have both been playing some brilliant stuff of late. It’d be a crime not to start the pair here.
Cristiano Ronaldo will obviously lead the line, with the Portugal international looking to keep up his brilliant record against Atletico Madrid. To his right and left respectively is Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.
