Our predicted MUFC XI for the Community Shield vs Man City is now in…
Just like that, the season is now upon us. Manchester United are gearing up for their third campaign under Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman now starting to mould the squad into one that fits his style of play.
First up, the Community Shield against Manchester City; a game that’s a repeat of the FA Cup final that the Red Devils won in glorious fashion last May.
The teams will look somewhat different here, as both sides have players who are still returning from international duties. United are also dealing with mass injuries, which is now a recurring theme for the 20-time Premier League champions.
The treatment table woes have hit particularly hard defensively, with a few players ruled out earlier in the week. It does look like Harry Maguire has overcome his issue to be in contention, which is a nice boost for the back line.
Anyway, after much deliberation, let’s give you the full rundown of the team we think will line up for this one.
Check out our predicted MUFC XI vs Man City in full here:
Andre Onana will start in between the sticks here, with the man from Cameroon looking to have a more consistent second season at United.
Diogo Dalot was the Reds’ top performing player last term and he will start at right-back. Harry Amass makes his competitive debut for the Old Trafford club here. The aforementioned Maguire is passed fit, starting alongside Lisandro Martinez.
Casemiro hasn’t looked great in pre-season but he’s still the best option in that defensive midfield slot. He will begin alongside Kobbie Mainoo, with Bruno Fernandes completing the midfield trio.
Amad has been the star of pre-season. The young Ivorian more than deserves his chance to start on the right-hand side, with Marcus Rashford getting the nod over on the left. Jadon Sancho will likely be deployed as a false nine, with Joshua Zirkzee not yet fully up to speed.
