Our second pre-season tour game is here, as MUFC prepare to play vs Melbourne Victory in Australia.
Manchester United started off their pre-season in the perfect manner, beating Liverpool 4-0 and looking pretty good in the process.
Sure, we have to understand that this was just a friendly game, while the two sides weren’t playing with their regular starting XI at full fitness. However, it’s always satisfying to get one over on the old enemy.
The games will start to come thick and fast from here on out over the next fortnight or so. Next up, a game against Melbourne Victory as the Australia leg of the 2022 tour begins.
Again, this match will be used purely for fitness purposes, while Erik ten Hag continues to impose his tactics and style on this current group of players.
Don’t read too much into these starting XIs at this stage, particularly as the whole line-up is once again likely to change at half-time. Anyway, let’s get right into it.
Check out our predicted MUFC XI vs Melbourne Victory here:
Tom Heaton will be given his chance in between the sticks here, during a game where he’s probably expecting a relatively quiet afternoon. David de Gea’s availability is also in the air, as he picked up a problem last time out.
The back four has completely changed from the Liverpool game. Aaron Wan-Bissaka will play at right-back, with new signing Tyrell Malacia getting the nod in that left-back spot. Harry Maguire should overcome injury to start and captain United here, while Eric Bailly absolutely deserves the chance to start.
Donny van de Beek was pretty quiet against Liverpool, so let’s give him another run out here and see what he can do. James Garner plays in that holding midfield role and I’m super keen to see what he’s capable of.
Anthony Martial will likely lead the line again, purely due to the lack of other options out there. Bruno Fernandes will play in the number ten spot, while youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Amad play on the left and right wing respectively.
