MUFC continue their FA Cup campaign with a home game vs Middlesbrough on Friday night. Our predicted XI is now in.
Perhaps the FA Cup is Manchester United’s best chance at silverware this season. After all, the Champions League is going to be tough given the shape of our squad right now.
A draw against Middlesbrough represents a decent opportunity, particularly as the game will be played at home. We’re a cut above our opponents, assuming we play to our best – whatever side Ralf Rangnick decides to call upon.
With that in mind, I believe we could see some changes. After all, some regulars will be travelling back from all corners of the country – hence why our South American contingent probably won’t get into the squad at all.
Anyway, let’s get right into the all-important team news.
Check out the predicted MUFC XI vs Middlesbrough in full here:
This does feel like a great chance to switch it up, starting with the goalkeeper. Dean Henderson should come into the side for a rare start, if only so Rangnick can see what he’s capable of.
I’m also expecting two changes in the full-back slot. Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will play here. Harry Maguire needs the minutes, as does Phil Jones. That’s a back two which should have the quality to get the job done.
I’ve gone for Nemanja Matic at the base of midfield, with his experience set to be vital. Throw in the energy that Scott McTominay brings to the table, and the craft of Bruno Fernandes and we have an excellent midfield threesome.
Marcus Rashford has two in two, so let’s keep that momentum going and hand him the start as our main striker. On the right we have Jesse Lingard who has been forced to stay at the club, with Anthony Elanga getting the nod over on the left.
It’ll also be nice to see the likes of Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba back on the substitutes bench following their injuries.
