With a fifteen point cushion at the top of the Premier League, this won’t be a derby of importance in terms of the league standings. Its always nice to win any derby game though so the lads will be well up for this one, especially after the last encounter at Old Trafford.
Fergie confirmed that Rafael and Rooney both returned to first-team training on Thursday so will both be fit to play. There are some slight concerns about Evans and Vidic, though, who may just miss out after recovering from knocks.
David de Gea is the first name on the team-sheet for me, his recent performances have been absolutely superb and I genuinely can’t remember the last time he made a mistake.
A back four of Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra looks very strong. The full-backs will bomb forward and offer another option going forward, plus Rio and Vida who seemed to have got better as the season progresses.
I expect Jones and Carrick will sit just in front of the back four and offer protection, you may even see Phil Jones doing a man-marking job on Yaya Toure or David Silva.
How strong does that front four look? I’ve gone for Van Persie up top with Wayne Rooney in behind, but you’d fully expect all four of them to be given a free role allowing them to chop and change depending on how the game is going.
Score prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Manchester City
I reckon we’ll have a little bit too much for them tomorrow night, we’ve been the better side all season and the lads will certainly want to avenge that defeat we do not speak of…
