Manchester United Football Club have agreed personal terms with Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, according to the Manchester Evening News on their United-based liveblog.
The report goes on to add that it is now up to the Old Trafford club to agree upon a fee with Chelsea for Matic, who could be more willing to sell the Serbian when they’ve brought in another midfielder – most likely as a replacement.
Now 28, Matic would come in and be that back four protector that the Red Devils have been absolutely desperate for. There were so many occasions last year when Paul Pogba’s offensive game became limited because he knew he didn’t have someone he could rely on behind him. Next season, that looks likely to change.
Although this signing may seem like an underwhelming one on paper, it’s exactly what is required. Jose Mourinho needs that guy he can trust to do the dirty work, and the pair have already proven themselves capable of winning league titles together.
Matic has Premier League experience and is willing to put his body on the line for the cause. On the whole, it’ll make the balance of our team look much better, and it is a move that makes an awful lot of sense if we want to compete for Premier League glory.
