It has been common knowledge that Ander Herrera was leaving Manchester United upon contract expiry on June 30th, but what wasn’t known was his destination.
Rumours were rife in regards to a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain, well now we’ve been given confirmation that’s his destination.
The story comes from Sport, who write that the Man United star is set to be announced by PSG this coming Monday, while the Ligue 1 giants will also confirm a €20m move for Pablo Sarabia at the same time.
Sport say that the reason for the delay has been due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, with the new year for FFP starting on July 1st – allowing PSG to confirm the move without any problems.
What’s interesting is that Herrera will be paid £300,000-a-week. That’s an absurd amount of money, but it’s because there was no transfer fee involved, thus PSG have handed the 29-year-old a massive weekly wage to ensure they secured his signature over other interested parties.
I think United’s problems are perfectly summed up by the fact that new deals have been given to bang-average squad players, while footballers with ambition, like Herrera, have refused to commit their future to Old Trafford unless there’s a huge offer on the table.
I genuinely do wish him the best of luck out in Paris. He’ll win trophies aplenty out in the French capital and I just hope that losing him doesn’t come back to hurt us in future.
