Over the summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the decision to thin out the Manchester United squad, in order to give young players a chance.
The Red Devils are facing the full force of that at the moment, though, as several key players are out injured. Several youngsters got their opportunities on Wednesday in a forgettable game against Rochdale – though it was a real mixed bag from our talented teenagers.
Amongst those who put in a poor midweek display was Tahith Chong. The fluffy-haired Dutchman was rightly substituted on the hour mark, and for me, I question whether he’s good enough.
Well according to The Sun, the 19-year-old starlet is being targeted for a January loan move by PSV Eindhoven; a club based in Chong’s homeland.
Perhaps this is exactly what’s needed for Chong. Although playing in the Eredivisie is a considerable step down, week-in-week-out minutes, working in a different environment, could be exactly what his career needs.
The talent is obviously there. Chong is excellent on the ball and a confident young man, but sometimes his decision-making seriously lets him down. I also worry about his physique, perhaps he needs to bulk up a little bit as that would allow him to compete in those one-on-one match-ups.
