PSV wants ‘at least’ £44m for Cody Gakpo, Reds ‘need to be quick’

Man United now know how much it’ll cost to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.

Manchester United are still developing under Erik ten Hag, with his squad still being formed. I suspect it’ll be at least another couple of years before the gaffer is completely happy with the dressing room he’s working with.

One man the club have been heavily linked with a move for recently is Cody Gakpo. The Dutchman eventually remained at PSV Eindhoven due to rising costs in the deal to sign Antony.

United, though, are seemingly ready to make another effort to sign Gakpo – perhaps even as early as January.

It’s journalist Rik Elfrink with the latest information. Last night, he took to Twitter to share his latest.

Apparently, PSV ‘ want at least’ £44m (€50m) to let Gakpo leave. More than that, though, they want the deal to happen in a speedy fashion – or else they’ll be no transfer happening.

The Reds will ‘need to be quick’ to get the deal done, presumably so PSV have time to bring in a suitable replacement in the mid-season window. Real Madrid are also credited with interest in the Dutchman.

I’d love United to go out there and sign Gakpo in January. It’d be the perfect way to back Ten Hag, who is doing some excellent work with the current squad at his disposal.

After losing Cristiano Ronaldo in brutal, public fashion, the club need to show unity. Bringing in a replacement like Gakpo, while Ronaldo swans off to Saudi Arabia, feels like an excellent response to the Portugal international’s departure.

The quicker United act, the better. Not only will the transfer fee only rise, but the longer the club leave it, the more competition they’ll face to get a deal done.
