Manchester United Football Club have made an excellent start to the Premier League season, with Jose Mourinho’s team picking up three wins out of three fixtures. Although the competition hasn’t been of that elite level, you can only beat what’s in front of you and it has gone well thus far.
However, in typical fashion, that hasn’t stopped some portions of the mainstream British media taking jibes at the Red Devils. This time, it’s Sky Sports News’ Paul Merson. He isn’t convinced by a couple of Mourinho’s signings this summer and he explains why below.
“I’m not convinced by Victor Lindelof at all.“ Merson told Sky Sports, as per 101 Great Goals.
“But Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic are very, very good signings and that’s why I’m giving them such a high grade.”
“They are two players that they needed and they will make a massive difference to that team.”
“They look like a completely different team with those two players in it and they could be the players to win the Premier League for them.
“I must admit I’m not convinced by Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming back.
“They are a completely different outfit this season with pace and power up front and I don’t see how he will fit in.”
Alright, Merson praises both Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic, but for him to come out and say that he isn’t convinced by Ibrahimovic coming back is odd. This is a man who scored 26 goals last season, and if you’ve ever followed Zlatan’s career, you know he thrives under the pressure and loves proving people wrong.
I think it’s fair to say that nobody has been best pleased with Lindelof’s start in Manchester United colours, but he is young and there is so much for him to learn as of right now. If he keeps working hard in training, his first-team opportunities will come and hopefully, the Swede will put that shaky start behind him.
