Manchester United Football Club have found their new hero this season, with Jose Mourinho bringing in Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The influential Swede is definitely repaying the faith shown in him by the manager, as he has already hit 26 goals this season.
Now 35, the man who has won in every country he’s ever played in is one of our key figures, and he’s been truly great to watch. However, some pundits feel that the Red Devils have become too reliant on the former Paris Saint-Germain man, and you’d have to agree with him.
Tony Cottee has claimed that there is too much responsibility on Zlatan’s shoulders, and he definitely needs some of the pressure taken off his shoulders by the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
“He has been fantastic – they have got to get goals from other areas.” Sky Sports quote Tony Cottee as saying.
“The likes of [Anthony] Martial hasn’t scored as many, [Marcus] Rashford is a great young talent but has not been playing regularly so it is hard to get goals from him, and Wayne Rooney has obviously been in and out and injured as well.”
“There is almost too much responsibility on Zlatan and, as a result, they were disappointing at the weekend.”
Well, these comments couldn’t have been any more timely. It looks as though our #9 is going to be missing a few games after being hit with a violent conduct charge, so it provides the perfect opportunity for the aforementioned duo of Rashford and Martial.
Right now, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the man of the moment, but what the younger forwards will be learning from him will be priceless in the long-term. Imagine just how good it’ll be watching him in training every day, if you’re Marcus Rashford, I bet he’s learning new things almost on an hourly basis, and we’ll reap the rewards over the next few seasons.
