Pundit reveals why he thinks Manchester United will finish above Manchester City this season

Manchester United have been playing some lovely football recently, despite the results not always going the way that Jose Mourinho would have wanted. However, as a fan you have to remain patient with the manager because we know exactly what he is capable of when things click into gear.

That’s stark contrast to neighbours Manchester City, who have looked utterly garbage over the last few months – as Pep Guardiola looks to implement his ‘tiki-taka’ style of play at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, former Manchester United man-turned-pundit Robbie Savage has had his say on the battle of Manchester, and the Welshman has gone as far as saying that the red half will be the ones celebrating a higher league finish come May – although a title surge is probably already beyond Jose Mourinho this season.

‘On current form in the battle to rule Manchester, Jose Mourinho looks like a man on the march while Pep Guardiola is only shuffling,’ Robbie Savage wrote in his Daily Mirror column.

‘I have been far more impressed with Manchester United over the last six weeks than with Man City, who have stalled after making such an impressive start in the Premier League. I think the worst is over for Mourinho at Old Trafford now.’

‘Of all the top-four contenders, they look most capable of stringing together a run of six or seven wins.

‘The table doesn’t lie, and United may not win the title – but I still think they will finish above City.’

At the end of the day, this is purely his opinion and there is no concrete proof to say United will definitely finish above City. However, you do have to say that Mourinho’s men are playing some excellent football right now, and Guardiola’s side are going in the opposite direction.

City still has a six-point lead, though, and they are too good of an outfit to not snap out of this poor spell shortly. We’ll just have to take it game by game and keep amassing as many points as possible – and hopefully that’ll accumulate in a top four finish come May.
