Raheem Sterling would be open to a move to Man United this summer.
Manchester United have made some excellent signings this summer, which INEOS deserve a tonne of credit for. However, Erik ten Hag needs further additions in order to truly compete at the highest level.
A deal to bring in Manuel Ugarte now appears to be somewhat close, which will certainly help out the midfield department. Over the last week or so, another weird rumour appeared, with the Red Devils offered the chance to sign Raheem Sterling in some sort of swap deal involving Jadon Sancho.
Now, The Telegraph (subscription required) have given their understanding of things from Sterling’s side. They state that the 29-year-old attacker ‘would consider’ a move to United this summer.
However, the player himself wants talks with Chelsea before departing Stamford Bridge, as he looks to sort out his contractual situation with the London side first.
From Sterling’s perspective, it’s understandable. He’s owed £325,000-a-week from Chelsea for the next three years. That’s an awful lot of money to miss out on, particularly as it was their decision to exile the Englishman from the squad.
From United’s standpoint, this honestly feels like a non-starter. I’d be surprised if Ten Hag was even remotely interested in signing Sterling this summer, who’d no doubt demand big money if he were to make the move to Manchester.
I’m just not sure he’s good enough at this stage of his career, while the player himself would probably demand regular starts if he did commit his future to the Old Trafford club.
