Ralf Rangnick delivers injury update ahead of Chelsea home game

Ralf Rangnick has given us the all-important team news ahead of the Chelsea game tomorrow.

At this point, it feels like our players are just sleepwalking towards the end of a disappointing season.

The lads gave up weeks ago, which is sad because there was every chance of finishing inside the top four about a week ago.

Ralf Rangnick’s willingness to call out the players publicly hasn’t had the desired effect as the lads continue to ensure the towel remains firmly thrown in.

With four games left, United could be on the wrong end of some more thumpings, with Chelsea next up for the Old Trafford club later today.

Ahead of that game, another couple of players have been added to the injury list. Harry Maguire has a knee issue, while Jadon Sancho is dealing with tonsillitis. They’ll join Fred, Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw on the sidelines.

Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:

“Fred is unfortunately not yet available,” Ralf told ManUtd.com.

“He tried to train yesterday but after training I had a long conversation with him and he just told me that he doesn’t feel fully fit, he’s not at 100 per cent, and with a player like Fred who’s always committed to give his very best, I don’t think it makes sense, with the muscular injury that he had, to play him too early, because that would mean we take the risk of a re-injury and this is something that I don’t want to do. So he won’t be available unfortunately tomorrow.

“And apart from that we have Harry Maguire who is not available. He has some issues with his knee, not a big thing – some niggle in his knee. He hasn’t been training, neither yesterday or today.

“Paul obviously, Fred, Edinson, Luke Shaw and Jadon – Jadon is ill, he has tonsillitis since yesterday, couldn’t train today and will also be not available tomorrow.”

It just sums up our season that many of our stars have spent large portions on the sidelines. I don’t doubt that if United were doing a little better as a club, some of these players would play through the pain barrier in order to help out.

I do understand it, though. Particularly those who are looking to move on this summer. They don’t want to risk worsening their injuries and cancelling their chances at a transfer away from Old Trafford.

On the flip side, I guess this means we have a better shot at seeing some of our young stars in action. I’d like to think we will get a look at Hannibal Mejbri, Alejandro Garnacho and maybe even Shola Shoretire.

The youth sides have set the example all season long, so why not throw them in at the deep end and get a better idea in regards to whether they’re ready for first-team action or not…
