Ralf Rangnick offers Donny van de Beek hope

Ralf Rangnick has stated that Donny van de Beek will get his chance at some point.

Manchester United’s signing of Donny van de Beek left us all feeling hopeful at the time. This was a top-class player who’d finally bring some genuine ability to our midfield.

Sadly, it hasn’t quite worked out as hoped. The Dutchman has seriously struggled to acquit himself in the side. Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, all hope looked lost. So far with Ralf Rangnick at the helm, the former Ajax man isn’t having much luck, either.

I guess we all expected that Van de Beek would be one of the biggest benefactors of Rangnick’s appointment. That simply hasn’t been the case.

However, Rangnick has stated that the fringe United star will be given his chance this season, with the gaffer praising the ‘top mentality’ that the Dutchman possesses.

Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:

‘So far as I have got to know him he’s got a top mentality, he works hard in every training session,’ Rangnick said, per The Metro.

‘He’s a team player through and through and there will be games where he will get his chance to play I’m sure.

‘I also had a longer conversation with him last week about that and of course it’s difficult for him right now because he also wants to play for the Dutch national team.

‘He wants to…play in the World Cup in Qatar and in order to do that he needs to get game-time here.

‘But I still believe that we should keep him, that he should stay here, definitely until the end of this season and try to get as much game-time as he possibly can.’

My initial reaction is that there must be a reason why Van de Beek just isn’t playing. Perhaps he’s not impressing in training. Maybe he’s just not right for this system? Who knows…

It’s easy to say, ‘Van de Beek deserves his chance’ to show what he can do in the team, but who are we really to suggest that? At the end of the day, we’re not seeing the training sessions and if there are players performing better, then it really is that simple. He deserves to sit on the bench week-in-week-out.

At this point, I’ve lost faith in this signing working out. Van de Beek is competing against a pretty average midfield right now and still not producing the goods. If we sign better players in that area, then he’ll have no hope whatsoever. Don’t forget, Paul Pogba has been out injured for a couple of months and the Dutchman still isn’t starting games.

It’s good to know that Van de Beek isn’t kicking up a fuss behind the scenes but he’ll have to start proving he merits a place within the starting line-up.
