Ralf Rangnick outlines his football tactics

Back in September, Ralf Rangnick outlined his tactics and style of play. It’s sure to leave Man United fans excited…

Manchester United’s decision to relieve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of his duties is already looking like a smart one. Sadly, the Baby Faced Assassin simply had to go.

Although there were doubts about who we’d bring in, particularly after allowing Antonio Conte to go to Tottenham Hotspur, it feels like the Red Devils have played this one smartly.

Rather than rushing into a decision, the board have gone down the interim route, with Ralf Rangnick the man they’re putting their trust in until next summer. Not only that, the German will remain at the club in a consultancy role on a two-year contract.

In the 24 hours since the news broke, we’ve been doing our best to work out what Rangnick will offer this club. Well, it’s fair to say we were excited when we read this latest quote about the brand of football he likes to play.

Check out what Ralf Rangnick had to say on his football ideologies here:

“Our idea is clear, it’s very, very similar to my coaching friend Jurgen Klopp,” he told the Coaches’ Voice YouTube channel in September. “Our Red Bull football is heavy metal, rock and roll, it’s not a slow waltz. We hate square passes, back passes, just having the ball ourselves doesn’t make sense.”

Honestly, I read this and I’m filled with belief. It’s no coincidence that all the top teams play this high-pressing style with a forward-thinking, progressive mentality. Rangnick believes in making every pass count while trying to hurt defenders at every opportunity. What’s not to like about that?

It pains us to say that Jurgen Klopp’s brand of football is incredibly effective. Rangnick is the father figure of that style. He is the man who taught both Klopp and Thomas Tuchel almost everything they know.

It’ll be intriguing to see how much impact Rangnick can have in a six-month period because these major overhauls take time. It’s also key that United’s permanent hire shares these similar beliefs, because if not, we’ll be right back to square one next summer.
