Ralf Rangnick outlines Man United’s winter transfer plans

Ralf Rangnick has had his say on Man United’s upcoming January transfer window.

Well, our new manager is finally in place. Ralf Rangnick will lead his side into battle for the first time this weekend against Crystal Palace.

Make no mistake about it, this guy is going to hugely benefit Manchester United Football Club in the long term, even if he’s only going to be in the dugout for six months.

For now, though, it’s up to Rangnick to try and work his magic with the current crop of players – or potentially bring in his own guys when the mid-season window opens next month.

Rangnick was asked about the possibility of adding players in the January window, with the German speaking out on that prospect during his press conference earlier this morning.

Check out what the gaffer had to say here:

“Maybe after Christmas, there will be a time to talk about possible transfers in the winter. In my experience, winter is not the time for sustainable transfers. It will be difficult in the winter.” Rangnick told the media, including The Mirror.

As you’d expect, Rangnick approached this one with caution for a number of reasons. Obviously, he’s only going to have been in place for a month before the January transfer window opens. That’s not much time at all to make an assessment on the squad who are already there.

On top of that, United may not really want to give money to a man who’ll no longer be a manager at the club come next June – unless they plan on appointing a successor who plays a similar style, then there’s absolutely no point in spending big here.

As we all know, buying in January is notoriously hard at the best of times, nevermind under the circumstances the Reds find themselves in right now. I’d honestly be extremely surprised if we see any sort of notable moves made here in terms of incoming.

Perhaps there’s a slight chance some players on the fringes of things may well depart, like Jesse Lingard for instance – unless Rangnick has the Englishman firmly in his plans.
