Rangnick blocks Diogo Dalot transfer exit: report

Ralf Rangnick has given the biggest indicator that he’s a firm believer in Diogo Dalot.

Manchester United are heading in a completely different direction under Ralf Rangnick. The German coach brings fresh ideas and tactics, which means he believes in different playing personnel.

His first major switch was at the full-back position. Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were quickly usurped by Alex Telles and Diogo Dalot. The latter, in particular, has impressed.

That hasn’t stopped clubs looking to try and sign the Portugal international, mind. According to Calciomercato, AS Roma were looking to bring in Dalot on loan.

The translation for that story came from the MEN Live Blog, who state that Rangnick ‘blocks’ the potential exit of the 22-year-old United star.

It’s former Reds manager and current Roma boss, Jose Mourinho, pushing to make the deal happen. Obviously, the self-proclaimed Special One is a big fan of Dalot, who he brought to Old Trafford in a £20m deal from Porto.

I’ll be the first to admit that I thought Dalot’s time at the Theatre of Dreams was coming to a close. I’m delighted to be proven wrong at this point, with the full-back looking like a player who does have plenty to offer this club.

Dalot has started both our Premier League games under Rangnick and the attacking quality he possesses is there for all to see. This is someone who is an attacker first and foremost. In a United side who like to play on the front foot, that feels like the number one priority – particularly in those home games where teams come to Manchester and look to sit back.

At the very least, it’s worth putting some genuine trust in Dalot from now until the end of the season to see whether he has what it takes to keep these performance levels up over a long period of time.
